Cenospheres (microspheres) are fine, hollow spherical particles with an aluminosilicate wall, generated as a by-product of coal combustion in power plants. Their unique morphology combines low weight with high compressive strength.
Technical parameters:
• Bulk density: 0.30–0.45 g/cm³
• Particle density: 0.55–0.85 g/cm³
• Particle size: 10–350 µm (standard D50 ≈ 75 µm)
• Compressive strength: 3 000–7 000 psi (fraction-dependent)
• Working temperature: up to 1 200 °C
• pH (10% slurry): 7–9
• Composition: SiO₂ 55–65%, Al₂O₃ 28–35%, Fe₂O₃ < 3%, balance CaO/MgO/K₂O
Applications:
• Construction and insulation materials: lightweight concrete mixes, thermal insulating plasters, lightweight partition panels
• Oil & Gas industry: well-cementing compounds (API/ISO), buoyancy microspheres
• Paints and coatings: density-reducing filler, improved thermal and acoustic insulation properties
• Plastics: syntactic epoxy foams, laminates, low-density composites
• Refractory materials and ceramics: insulating bricks, crucibles, industrial kiln linings
• Cosmetics and personal care: microcapsules, INCI-listed fillers
Supply and logistics:
